Experience:
Jan Gisholt brings a strong commercial background to the practice of maritime law. After obtaining his undergraduate degree in government from Colby College, he worked as a financial analyst for General Electric Corporation. Deciding to move to the maritime field, Mr. Gisholt first earned a Masters Degree in Spanish at Middlebury College and then entered the brokerage field. From 1994 until 2000 he worked as a ship and cargo broker, concentrating in the following areas: container liner trade, Ro-ro trade, break-bulk heavy lift cargoes and bulk cargoes. He has fixed over 200 time, voyage and bareboat charters, negotiated transportation contracts for a wide variety of cargoes, arranged contracts of affreightment and has negotiated vessel sales. During his brokerage career, Mr. Gisholt also completed the State University of New York Maritime College continuing education programs in Admiralty Law and Ship and Cargo Brokerage.
Mr. Gisholt received his law degree from Pace University School of Law, attending the evening division for four years while working full time as a paralegal in a New York maritime law firm. Mr. Gisholt has experience in charter party disputes and cargo claims, and will be active in all phases of the firm's practice.
