Experience:
Mr. Meehan graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1976. Between 1976 and 1981, he sailed as Third, Second and Chief Officer aboard American flag oceangoing tank vessels. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Unlimited Chief Mate's license. Since joining the firm in 1984, Mr. Meehan has specialized in collisions and all types of marine casualties, including groundings, allisions and
sinkings. He is well-versed in casualty related issues such as general average, limitation of liability and the defense of third party business interruption claims. Mr. Meehan also has considerable experience in cargo claims and charter party disputes, including handling all types of bulk liquid claims, where his experience on oil tankers is particularly valuable. He has lectured on charter parties and bills of lading at seminars for ship's officers sponsored by a major U. S. oil company and a U.S. ship owning company.
